A collaboration denim created several years ago between the denim brand HEAVIES and MOTO-BUNKA. It became a favorite pair that was worn for years, repeatedly repaired and worn again every time it got damaged.
At the point where it finally felt fully worn out, we discovered the custom bag project by CHROME INDUSTRIES, which inspired a new upcycle project to give this denim a second life in a completely different form.
The base model used is CHROME’s iconic messenger bag, the MINI METRO. Maintaining the authentic messenger-bag functionality such as abrasion-resistant 1050 denier nylon and a highly waterproof military-spec tarp liner, this one-of-a-kind custom bag combines those features with heavily worn denim.
One of the biggest focuses of this project was preserving the original structure of the denim itself. The back pockets were reused on the exterior of the bag, allowing quick access to a U-lock, cigarettes, or small items without opening the bag while riding.
It almost feels like the routines from wearing the denim have been carried directly over to the bag itself. Rather than simply being a remake, this piece reconstructs the memories, wear patterns, and character built up over years of use.
The repeatedly repaired patchwork sections are also incorporated into the bag, turning the visible signs of wear and repair into unique design accents that make each piece truly one of a kind.
